Floyd County Schools (FCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tyler Thomas as the new Assistant Principal of Alto Park Elementary School (Alto). 

​Mr. Thomas is a veteran educator with a deep commitment to the Coosa community. He brings experience in instructional leadership and curriculum development, and he is committed to student growth and well-being in his new role. 

Mr. Thomas has served Floyd County Schools since 2014, most recently holding the position of Assistant Principal, Title I, and Gifted Coordinator at Coosa Middle School. During his tenure in the Coosa district, he also served as an Academic Coach and a Math Instructional Lead Teacher. 

"I'm excited to join Alto Park Elementary as Assistant Principal," said Mr. Thomas. "Over the past six years, I've grown to love the Coosa community, and I'm looking forward to bringing that same commitment to Alto Park. It's a special school with outstanding students, families, and staff. I'm eager to support the great work happening there and continue the partnership with the Coosa community to keep building on that success!"

Mr. Thomas holds an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont College and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education at Liberty University. Beyond his K-12 leadership, he serves as an Adjunct Instructor of Mathematics and Education at both Shorter University and Georgia Highlands. 

His diverse background also includes international experience as a professional development leader in Guyana, South America.

"Mr. Thomas is a proven leader who understands the instructional and cultural needs of our schools," said Dr. Glenn White, FCS Superintendent. "His track record of fostering positive school climates and his dedication to data-driven student growth make him the perfect fit to join the leadership team at Alto Park Elementary. We are excited to see what he will do in his new role."

Mr. Thomas will begin his new duties effective for the upcoming school year, joining Mrs. Dena Tracy, who was recently named the new Principal at Alto.

A veteran educator with 32 years of experience, Tracy has most recently served as the Assistant Principal at Alto Park, where she has been a driving force in supporting the school’s 400 students and 80 staff members.

Tracy’s ties to the Alto Park community and her proven record of leadership make her the natural choice to lead the school forward. As the current Assistant Principal of The Park, Tracy has been in charge of important programs like school testing, instructional tracking, and public relations, all while fostering a positive school environment for all. 

"Mrs. Dena Tracy has already done great things for the Alto Park community as its Assistant Principal," said Dr. Glenn White, Floyd County Schools Superintendent. "Her background in curriculum development and her passion for student achievement are exactly what we look for in a leader. We are excited to see the school continue to thrive under her guidance."

Previously in Tracy’s career, she worked five years as an Assistant Professor of Education at Shorter University and as the K-12 Social Studies Specialist for FCS. She also served 24 years as a classroom teacher, earning the title of Pepperell Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 2002 and reaching the top three finalists for the district-wide honor.

"I am deeply honored to step into this new role at Alto Park Elementary," said Dena Tracy. "Having served this community as Assistant Principal, I have seen firsthand the dedication of our teachers and the potential of our students. I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure every child at Alto Park receives a high-quality education in a supportive and encouraging environment.”

Tracy holds an Educational Specialist degree from Jacksonville State University and just completed her Tier II Certification in Educational Leadership at the University of West Georgia. 

Mrs. Tracy will step in to replace Mr. Patrick Hopper, who announced his retirement earlier this month. Mr. Hopper made a tremendous impact on the school community at The Park, and we will truly miss him and his leadership. We wish him the very best retirement!
